Snow Flower and the Secret Fan is a film directed by Wayne Wang. This film by Fox Searchlight Pictures is about a friendship that is passed on for decades up to the present times. Way back in the 19th century, in China, 2 girls both 7 years old are matched as "laotong" meaning lifelong sisters. Though isolated by their families, they've found a way to communicate by writing in a secret language in the folds of a white silk fan. Many years passed by, their descendents struggle to maintain their own childhood friendship amidst complicated love life and demanding careers. To continue the tradition, they have to look back to the past and relive the story of the connections hidden in the folds of an antique white silk fan.
