A cruise ship carrying more than 170 people sank on Russia's Volga river Sunday leaving one person dead and authorities are still searching for the 88 people who are missing.
Authorities said the accident happened three kilometres (two miles) from the shore, with the Bulgaria now lying 20 metres (66 feet) deep on the riverbed.
On the report, a ministry spokesman said the cruise ship Bulgaria sank not far from the village of Syukeyevo, about 80 kilometres (50 miles) south of Kazan, Tatarstan's main city located 800 kilometres (500 miles) east of Moscow.
The ship Arabella "retrieved 85 people at the site of the accident, including two people who were hospitalized and one who is dead," he added.
Zugeyev said available information indicated that 140 passengers and 33 crew members were on board , but he stressed that the figures may not be final.
